What is pre-selling? A very basic explanation of pre-selling is that it is the attempt to create an environment which places the customer in a mood where he or she is more likely to make a purchase.

It is not a new concept as advertisers have been using it for years. A good example of pre-selling in internet marketing is the review site.

Here are some pre-selling tips you need to know.

No Ads

You want to sell without looking like you want to sell. That means your site should be clean of ads. If your article has to compete with flashing banners and ads for the reader’s attention then you have already lost the battle. It is best to keep the page ad-free.

Quality Article, not A Sales Pitch

While you will want to tout the benefits of your product, you don’t want to come off as a pitchman for an infomercial. Write your article as though you were telling a friend of a great new item you have discovered. This will foster a sense of trust between you and the reader.

Not Fake Statements

No one is going to believe that your new e-book or new product is going to make them a millionaire. The fake statement will not only cost you any trust you had hoped to build but also your visitors will go away.

Again, the trick to pre-selling is the soft approach. If your article sounds like a sales page then you need to tone down the hype.

One Product Per Article

If you are telling about a great web hosting company then don’t mention other products in your article. If the article tells of the benefits of XYZ Hosting then that should be your sole focus. If you want to push another item then do so in another article.

If you decide to do this, make sure that you don’t try to sell similar items from the same site.

Affiliate Links

Of Course, you have to use affiliate links if you are promoting a third party product. That does not mean they should be everywhere throughout the article. A good rule of thumb is to limit the number of affiliate links to no more than two.

You want to look like you are reluctant to share the secret of how to get this great product rather you are trying to force the reader to visit the affiliate site.

Effective Niche Marketing Tips

Finding ideas for niche content isn’t difficult, but you need to know how to find effective ideas.

Sign up to other peoples lists

Signing up to other people/competitor lists allows you to see what kind of content they are sending to their own people. Pay attention to the quality and quantity of content they are giving to their subscribers.

I’m not saying take their content and copy it, I’m saying use it to come up with ideas and research particular areas.

Magazines

Most profitable subjects you can think of should have a magazine which is targeted towards people who are interested in it (no matter how obscure the niche!) Visit your local newsagent and take a look at some of the articles. I bet that gives you more than a handful of ideas for niche content!

If not, you can visit eBay, Amazon, etc and search for magazines on your niche. If that fails, look for online magazines. As a niche marketing expert, you’ve got to be a little creative (think online and offline!)

Read niche blogs

Keep a regular check on the blogs in your niche and again have a read of the content they are providing. Check out the most popular posts (you can usually tell which they are since they will have lots of comments), think about how you can add more value to that post in your own words either with more research or just a little bit of creativity.

YouTube

Videos are fast becoming the number one type of online content. Visit online video sites such as YouTube and check out the most popular videos in your subject area. You will find a few ideas for niche content. However, don’t get distracted while you’re researching! Stay focused.

Check out forums

The best content addresses peoples needs and problems. Most of the time, people have problems in a certain area. Check out forums to find out what those questions and issues are – then create content to address them.
