Social Media: How They Affect Your Life

Technology has to lead the human race on such a unique path. A path to greatness and success. A path to do things that are unimaginable. Computers, a piece of technology that is incredibly difficult to live without in these days. Almost the entire planet has internet access. It’s very easy to access all the information you want.

The social media has become one of the most powerful networking tools a person could have. Many people become famous and have careers solely based off their social media standing or business they chose to make using it.

There are many amazing reasons to have social media and to use it for personal gain, but the issue lies in how people are beginning to view others and themselves. Some of the most popular social media platforms include Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Snapchat.

The start of most of these platforms was a simple one, connect people in different ways. Connect family members and friends and share an experience with them all. Of course, came the celebrities in which many people wanted to follow or even become and that is where the problem lied.

People became so infatuated with the attention that those people were receiving and compared it to their own. This was not as big as a problem 10 years ago as it is today. Many young adults look up to these celebrities and copy every aspect of their lives down to the dictation. This not only impacts how they socialize but their view of the world.

Most teens and young adults spend more time on their phones and on social media concerned about what is happening and living a life that is not theirs. In the end, this leads to more people becoming socially inept and having difficulties exploring and experience the outside world.

There are many who choose to have jobs based on social media, but not connecting with people face to face leads to many social issues and even depression. It also impacts relationships and how it can consume two people.

Many young couples never last or have severe complications, because of media depicting a relationship that seems all too perfect. When in reality each relationship has their issues, just like each person has their own set of issues whether or not they choose to accept those issues is their choice.

Another issue at hand is how many people determine their self-worth based off how many people follow them on these platforms or based off how many likes they get, and if they do not get a certain amount it can make them feel worthless.

Now, this is not with every person who has social media or who uses social media, but more and more it can be seen that the young adults are having more issues later on in life, because of this.

Social media usage or overuse can affect the lives of teens and young adults who are still experiencing life and learning through those experiences. Yes, it can lead to many opportunities but it can ruin the human psyche.

It’s very simple. The real life is out there. Turn off your laptop or smartphone and go for a walk, coffee with friends, or for your hobby. Don’t believe the fake life of social media.
